James J. McCarthy 76, of Lake Ariel died Wednesday evening at Wayne
Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. His wife of 50 years is Nancy Callan
McCarthy.
Born June 25, 1930 in the Bronx NY son of the late John and Agnes
Kane McCarthy. He was a graduate of Villanova University and served
in with the 35th infantry regiment of the 25th infantry division on
Korea and Hawaii. He was a retired Nassau County Police Department
Lieutenant serving 28 years with the force. He was also a member of
PBA and the SOA. He was a member of St Thomas More/St Mary’s
parish’s where he served as an usher and was also a
member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7403, Lake Ariel.
He was a loving and faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother
and uncle who was very protective and devoted to his family. He will
also be remembered for his marvelous Irish wit and will be deeply missed
and lovingly remembered in our hearts forever. Glory be to God and
praise forever.
Surviving are a son Nicholas J. of Lake Ariel; daughters Mariellen
Hagy and husband Keith of Warrenton, Va, Kerry McCarthy, of Port Jefferson
NY, Maureen Marold and husband Joseph of Jermyn, and Eileen Gorton
and husband David of Nicholson; a sister Mary Jane and husband Ret.
Colonel Albert Litschgi, Fairfax, Va; Grandchildren Nicholas, Rebecca,
Emily Jessica, James, Marissa, Brittany, Nicole, Kyle and Jacob; nieces
and nephews. Preceded in death by a sister Kathleen Brown and a grand
nephew Ryan Patrick Brown.
Anyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church
Saturday morning.
Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church
corner of Tresslarville and Gravity Rds. Lake Ariel.

William H. Cook, Lake Ariel, died Friday at home
with his family by his side. His wife of 56 years was the former Evelyn
A. Smith Cook who died Nov 6, 2005.
Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late Amzi and Agnes Schneider Cook.
He was a life long resident of Lake Ariel. He and his brother, Alfred,
started their own business called the GLF in Lake Ariel which later
became known as Cook’s Agway. He served in the Army as a Master
Sergeant during WWII in the Phillipines. He was a member of Salem Lodge
#330 F&AM serving as Worshipful Master in 1951. He was awarded
his 50 year membership pin in 1997. He also belonged to the Keystone
Consistory and various Scottish Rite Bodies in the
Valley of Scranton. He also was a member of the SSG. Paul A. Sweeney
American Legion Post #807 and the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughters Linda Justice R.N., Nancy Pennell and Julie
Wartella all of Lake Ariel; sons William A. Cook of Lake Ariel and
Jeffrey A. Cook of Rochester, NH; sisters Ethel Rose of Honesdale and
Jean Turner of Lake Ariel; brothers Alfred and Harold Cook both of
Lake Ariel and Ernest of Honesdale; 8 Grandchildren; 2 Great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a brother Arthur and a sister Elizabeth Gorton.
The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 11am in the James Wilson
Funeral Home Rt 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by the Rev
Robert Horn.
Interment will be in Hamlin Cemetery. Friends may call Monday evening

Community Hospital after an illness. His wife is the former Helen Naholnick.
Born in Jessup, son of the late Harry and Anna Sedlak Kuchmanich. He
was a member of St. Tikhon’s Church, South Canaan. Prior to retirement
he had been employed as a toolmaker for the Illinois Tool Company in
Michigan.
Surviving are a son John Kuchmanich and his wife Pamela Sue of Clinton
Twp.; a daughter Elaine Pendrick and her husband Richard of Greenville,
Michigan; a brother Peter Kuchmanich of Jessup; six grandchildren;
several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in
death by a son Gregory Kuchmanich; brothers Harry Kuchmanich; a sister
Anna Simon.

He had been educated in the Lake Ariel School System. He was member

as a independent mail carrier contractor.

Church where he served as a Deacon and Trustee, the United Auto Workers

he had been employed by the Ford Motor Company as an electrician. He
was a United States Army veteran.

Raymond F. Lukeski, Jr., Hamlin, died Thursday after being stricken
ill. Born in Scranton, son of the late Raymond F. Sr and Dora June
Skelton Lukeski he was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and
the Johnson School majoring in Tool and Die. He was employed by Tinsley
Design and Fabrication, Moscow as a welder and the Loveshaw Manufacturing
Company, South Canaan.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved gardening and to spend
time outside in nature. He was also a life member of the National Rifleman
Association.
Surviving are a brother Robert J. of Archbald; sisters Jean Marie Pfister
of Hamlin and Roseann Houman both of Hamlin; one niece; four nephews;
cousins. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 5pm in the James Wilson

Van Luvender Knickerbocker, 61, of South Canaan, formerly of Moscow,
died suddenly Friday morning in the Marian Community Hospital. Her
husband of 42 years was William J. Knickerbocker.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Merlin and Marion Edwards
Van Luvender. She attended both Lake Ariel and Taylor schools graduating
from Taylor High School in 1963. She was a member of the Moscow United
Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader and a Cub Scout
Den mother. She was a kind and loving mother, wife, grandmother, and
friend. She will be remembered by all she loved and who loved her.
She lived her life caring about others, even those she didn’t
know well. She never let anything get her down and often would say, “this
too shall pass.” She devoted her life to her family.
She loved Nascar Racing, football and fishing. She also enjoyed cross
stitching and crossword puzzles.
Surviving are a daughter Donna Knowles and her husband Ron of Gouldsboro;
sons William C. of South Canaan, James of Mt. Cobb and David of Moscow;
a brother Paul Van Luvender of Moosic; grandchildren Ronnie and Jason
Knowles and Cameron and Chase Knickerbocker; several nieces and nephews.

employed by Waymart Knitwear. She was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are 4 daughters: Kathleen N. Kramer Sheerer of Bethlehem,
Marlene P. Kramer Ackerman of Clarks Summit, Lewanna M. Kramer Lockwood
Lynons Black of South Canaan and Linda Lee R. Kramer, Lake Ariel; stepson

Hospital Hospice Unit after an illness. His wife is the former Elaine
Marie Delia.
Born in Passaic, New Jersey son of Fannie Patti Intelisano
of Fairfield, New Jersey and the late Joseph Intelisano, Sr. He was
a graduate of Passaic High School, Fairleigh Dickinson University,
and Columbia Institute of Chiropractic Medicine. He was a member of
St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel. He was a member and past president
of the Garden State Chiropractic Society, member of the Pennsylvania
State Chiropractic Society, and a past member of the Rotary Club, Hamlin.
He was a self employed chiropractor for 40 years in Clifton, New Jersey,
Hamlin, Pa and Laceyville, Pa.
Surviving are sons Joseph and his wife Jackie of Bradenton,
Fl and Christopher De Tone and his wife Melanie of Clearwater, Fl;
daughters Renee Intelisano of Mt. Arlington, NJ, Julie Intelsiano of
Malden on Hudson, and Virginia Intelisano of Tampa, Fl, Amy Schneider
and her husband Bill of Lake Ariel, and Kimberly De Sau and her husband
Mike of Coppell, Tx; sisters Camille Intelisano of Verona, NJ and Patricia
Cerrigone of Fairfield, NJ; grandchildren Ashley, Alexis, Grace, Faith,
Hope, Rachel, and Gabrielle.
Dr. Joe belonged to a singing
group in the late 50's called "The Tassels." They had a hit
record song title "To a Soldier Boy" which reached number
55 nationally in the summer of 1959. He was an author of several books
and articles pertaining to the Healing Arts and Alternative Medicine.
Dr. Joe was granted a United States Patent on August 27, 2002 for inventing
a food supplement/herbal composition for use as a health enhancement.

an illness. Born in Madison Twp. son of the late Ellis and Amy Hartford
Parry his wife of 61 years is the former Elsie Mead.
He was a graduate of Sterling High School, he was a 2nd Lt. Serving
in the Army Air Corp. as a pilot during World War II in India and China,
and prior to retirement he was partners with his brother Frank in Parry’s
Garage, Hollisterville. He was a member of the Hollisterville Bible
Church.

Thomas, Hollisterville, Lynn and his wife Lisa, Madisonville, Dale
and his wife Malinda, Gouldsboro, Mark, Madisonville, Luke and his
wife Morag, Bangor; a daughter Kathleen and her husband Bill Ferguson,
Mt. Holly, NJ; a brother Richard, Port Jervis, NY; sisters Elizabeth

G. Karkoska, Lakeville, passed away peacefully on Sunday. His wife
of 49 years is the former Evelyn Prosnak. Born in Jessup on April 3,
1935, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Petrillo Karkoska.
He was a graduate of Hawley high school. Prior to retirement he had
been employed as a union Mason in New Jersey. He was a member of St
Mary’s Church Ledgedale.As a young boy his parents moved from
Jessup to a farm in Lakeville. After high school he moved to New Jersey
to begin his long career as a Stone Mason, he and his wife Evelyn made
their home in Jamesburg, Nj for 45 years before moving back to Pa in
2002. He was charter member and past Exalted Ruler of The B.P.O.E 2180,
a member of St James Knights of Columbus Council 6336 in Jamesburg,
NJ. He also enjoyed Hunting, playing cards and spending time with his
family.
Also surviving are a son Paul and his wife Rose of Jamesburg, NJ,
Daughter Michele and husband George Blandino of Bridgewater NJ. Sister
in law Judy Sochoka of Greenfield Twp, Grandchildren Amanda and Nicholas
Karkoska, Jennifer and Michael Blandino, Niece and nephew Jay and Lynn
Sochoka and many cousins.

Jeanne Marie Ball Davis, 68, Lake Ariel, died Friday at home after
a battle with cancer. Her loving husband of 44 years was Lester Davis.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Jessie Hiney Edwards Ball and
Russell Ball. She was a member of the Maplewood Grace United Methodist
Church for over 55 years. She was a graduate of the Lake Ariel Consolidated
High School and West Chester State Teachers College with a Bachelor
of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Her teaching career spanned
25 years from 1959 to 1997 where she was able to touch thousands of
young lives in a positive way. She taught in the Western Wayne School
District in Pennsylvania as well as in schools in Ft. Dix, NJ, Ocean
Springs, Mississippi, and Mid West City, Oklahoma. She was active in
her church where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Communion Stewart,
Administrative Board Secretary, and Church Trustee. She was also active
in the Emmaus community where she was a Table leader and a member of
the Emmaus Board of Directors. She was also a member of one of the
Western Wayne Scholarship Committees. Recently she wrote and published
a 50th yearbook for her Lake Consolidated High School class fo 1955.
She was also a VNA Hospice volunteer and found great joy in working
in the Hospice community with her friend and associate Carol Schneider.
She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and school
teacher. She was beloved by everyone. Her greatest joys in her retirement
years was spending time with her grandsons Timothy and Christopher.
Surviving are sons Jeffery Edward Davis and his wife Rebecca Morgan
Davis and Lester James Davis, Jr and his wife Patricia Tyler Davis;
grandsons Timothy and Christopher Davis; a brother Russell Ball all
of Lake Ariel; several nieces and nephews.

Friday morning in Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, Pa. shortly after
arrival. His wife of 57 years is the former Jean Booth.
Born March 26, 1927 in Trappe, Pa, son of the late Reaser F. and Emma
Shellenberger Felton. He lived most of his life in Hatfield, Pa until
retiring to Newfoundland, Pa in 1986. Prior to retirement he had been
employed for 32 years by North Penn Transfer in Lansdale, Pa as a Truck
Driver. He served in the Army Stationed in Japan during World War II
earning the Army occupation medal and the World War II Victory medal.
Bud was a hard working man who enjoyed hunting, boating and especially
gardening.
Surviving two daughters: Karen Osecki of Hamlin, Pa. and Sandy Dillon
and her husband Jim of Hatfield, Pa.; a brother Richard and wife Marge
of Wellsboro, Pa.; grandchildren Becky Dillon-Hinchliffe and her husband
Rich, Stefan Osecki, Megan Dillon, Jordan Osecki and Luke Dillon.

Legion Post 807, Hamlin. Prior to retirement he had been employed by
Verizon Telephone Co for 32 years as a cable splicer and was a member
of Telephone pioneers club. He also had been employed by Northeast
Auto Auction in Scranton for the last year. He was also a member of
the Local 827 IBEW Union and the Elco Boat Club of Bayonne, NJ.
Also surviving are two sons: Edward C. of Long Valley, NJ and Joshua
L of Oakridge NJ; two brothers George of Marlton NJ and John of Cranford

Walter E. Hall, Waymart, died Tuesday night in the VNA Hospice Unit
at the Community Medical Center after a long illness to be at peace
with the Lord.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Wesley and Alice Enslin Hall. He
was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School. Prior to retirement
he had been employed by Lockheed Martin for 28 years, retiring in 2001.
Walter was a loving and generous man to his children and he will be
dearly missed. May he finally rest in peace and be in the loving arms
of the Lord.
Surviving are a daughter Kim Torquati and her husband Michael of Waymart;
a son Wesley Hall and his wife Barbara of Lake Wallenpaupack; a son
Earl Hall and his beloved dog Junior of Waymart; a brother Edwin Hall
of Lake Ariel; sisters Sandra Enslin of Chambersburg and Barbar Stanat
of Shippensburg; grandchildren Kyrtsal and Kelly Oliver, Scott, Kaitlyn,

Cagliostro he was a graduate of the New Uretck High School. He was
a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale. Prior to retirement
he had been employed by Universal Utilities as a oil burner technician.
He was a member of the Staff Sergeant Paul A Sweeney American Legion
Post 807, Hamlin. He was a United Sates Army Veteran of World War II.
Surviving are two daughters Denise Jaeger and Patricia Sewell both
of Long Island; two grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a brother Joseph and a sister Rose Carrano.

Church, Hawley. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a manager
with Con Ed. He was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War
II.

J. Neville, Hollisterville, died Friday after a hard fought battle
with cancer. He would have been 49 years old in August. He is survived
by his wife the former Ellen Pawluck with whom he would have celebrated
25 years of marriage in October.
Jim was employed at Wallenpaupack Lake Estates for 26 years. He served
as Chairman of the Salem Township Planning Commission, a member of
the Moscow Sportsman’s Club, St. Thomas More Church and a member
of the Salem Lodge Free and Accepted Masons #330, Hamlin. He was a
graduate of Western Wayne High School.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman and had a particular love of fly-fishing.
He also enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques in his spare time.
Above all, Jim was a devoted husband and father. He will be deeply
missed.
Surviving are sons Cory and Jared, of Hollisterville; a brother Thomas;
several cousins; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his mother Louise.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 9am in the James Wilson Funeral Home
Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with Mass of Christian Burial to be

Mabel Curtis Richie Lasserre, 93, of Gravity, passed
quietly into the waiting arms of Jesus, Thursday in the Community Medical
Center Hospice Unit following a brief illness. She was the widow of
Ferdinand Richie and Roger M. Lasserre.
Born in Gravity, daughter of the late Rachel Shaffer Curtis and
Herbert Curtis, she was preceded in death by a brother Robert Curtis
and sister, the late Inez Curtis Matthews. She is survived by
a nephew Richard E. Matthews of Carbondale, and nieces Christine Schwartz
of Scranton, and Kathy Wright of Idaho.
She was a graduate of Lake Ariel High School. She was
last employed at the Myrna Owens Children’s Home in South Canaan.
She was a faithful member of the Canaan Bible Chapel, Varden. She was
also a long time member of the Gravity Grange and loving friend to
many in the Gravity, Varden and South Canaan areas. She was an artist
with embroidery and crocheting, and her doilies and quilts adorn homes
in several states.
Surviving are Rev. and Mrs Daniel and Nancy Baker of
Port Crane; nieces and nephews.
To pastor Baker’s children and grandchildren she
was lovingly known as "Aunt Mabel."
Many thanks go to the residents and staff at The Manor
at Waymart, which has been her home for the past five years, and to
the caring staff at the VNA Hospice unit.
The Funeral will be Saturday at 2 PM in the James Wilson
Funeral Home, Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel, with services by Rev.
Matthew Wolfe and Rev. Daniel C. Baker.

Beloved mother and grandmother Charlotte Bertha Schaff passed away
Thursday, July 6th, 2006 in Anacortes, Washington following a long
illness.
She was born September 9th, 1911 in Woodhaven, Long Island, New York,
the daughter of Peter J. and Bertha Emily Druet DeLorey. Most of her
formative years were spent in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate
of Lake Ariel High School and Wyoming Seminary College of Business
in Kingston, Pennsylvania.
She served as minister’s wife in Wyoming Conference and Southern
New Jersey Conference. She is the widow of Rev. Clyde A. Schaff, United
Methodist Clergyman who died in 1982.
Later, she also lived in Westmont, Cherry Hill, Avon-by-the-Sea, and
Malaga NJ. She served as Youth Advisor in camps and conferences and
was a Girl Scout leader.
She was a member of Haddonfield United Methodist Church and a 60-year
member of Harriet Green Chapter #198 Order of Eastern Star (Past Matron).
Survived by her son Clyde Pierre Schaff, Oak Harbor, Washington, 3
grandchildren: Karl S. Schaff, Karin L. Schaff, and David L. Schaff
of Anchorage Alaska, great-grandchildren Darby Schaff and Jordan Schaff
and two great-great grandchildren, three sisters, Lillian Cramer and
Louise Grippi of Moscow, and Natalie Moore of Lake Ariel.
Preceded in death by daughter Verlynne Needham in 1960 and son Ross
Schaff in 1995.
Services will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Elmhurst on Saturday July
15, 2006 at 10:30am.

Lawrence C. "Mac" McCloskey, Lake Ariel, died
Wednesday morning at the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale following
a short illness. His wife of nearly 50 years is the former Helen Zvikas.
Born January 11, 1929 in Lake Ariel, he was the son of
the late Lawrence E and Doris Chapman McCloskey. He was a 1946 graduate
of the Lake Consolidated High school and a 1950 graduate of the US
Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York. He spent most of his
career as a tugboat engineer for McAllister Towing, New York City,
for whom he worked 30 years before retiring. Prior to his retirement,
he traveled to many parts of the world while serving as an engineer
aboard several steamships, including the famed S.S. United States.
Surviving are sons Lawrence, Jr and his wife Teri of
Manheim and Robert and his wife Ruth of Peckville; grandsons Robert,
Nicholas, and Matthew; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be private at the convenience of the
family.

Monday morning in the Center. She was the widow of Albert R. Kellogg.
Born in Scranton daughter of the late Bernard Bardell and Lena Getz

faith. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a waitress at Twin
Rocks Restaurant. She was active with the Jefferson Township Senior
Citizens Group.
She loved bird watching and bingo.

and her husband James of Hollisterville and Brenda Porreca and her
husband Walter, Jr. of Honesdale; a brother Earl Hartranft of Haines

Wilhelmina A. Cooper, Mt. Cobb, died Saturday morning at home in the
care of her loving care givers and VNA services after a long illness.
She was the widow of Glenn T. Cooper who died in 2005.
Born in Factoryville, she was the daughter of the late Charles and
Mary Bartridge Miller and was a member of the Elmdale Independent Bible
Church. Prior to retirement she had been employed by Cooper’s
Poultry Farm.
She was a beloved wife and mother. Willy had a zeal for life and worked
hard at whatever was before her. She was known for her good cooking
and green thumb vegetable gardening. Family picnics at the pond were
among her favorite activities. She loved her church where she served
as church and Sunday school secretary for a number of years. She will
be greatly missed by family and friends. But because of her personal
faith in Jesus Christ’s atonement for sins, she had the assurance
of an eternal home in heaven.
Surviving are a daughter Grace Klees of Mt. Cobb; sisters Florence
Jervis, Frances Gibbons and Carolyn Smith all of Factoryville; nieces
and nephews.
Preceded in death by brothers Henry Dickson and Frederick Miller;

Thursday morning in the Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit after an illness.
His wife was the former Bertha Kinzel who died in 2002.
Born in Brooklyn, son of the late Charles and Florence Williams he
attended Kingsborough Community College were he received an Associates
Degree in Nursing. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale
and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7403 Lake
Ariel. He had been employed as a Firefighter in Brooklyn stationed
at Rescue 2 and retired as a Registered Nurse at the Methodist Hospital
in Brooklyn.
Surviving are sons John of Holbrook, NY, Charles of Brooklyn, and
James of Chatham, NJ; daughters Mary Ann Nichols of Staten Island,
NY and Regina Tronolone of East Stroudsburg; sisters Florence "Sissy" Dickerson
of East Northport, NY and Louise O’Connor of Anaheim, Ca; 15
grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Surrounded by his family, William R. Davis, 65, Lake Ariel, went home
to be with the Lord at Mercy Hospice after a courageous battle with
an illness on April 10, 2006. He is survived by his beloved wife of
42 years, the former Lorraine Moore.
Born November 20, 1940 in Honesdale son of the late Lester and C.
Lenore Davis. He was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated High School.
He was a member of the Hamlin Assembly of God Church. Through the years
he was very active in the church as a deacon youth leader, and working
with the Royal Ranger program. He served in the United Sates Army from
1960 through 1963. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Michael
Vasquez Heating and Plumbing for over 25 years.
He enjoyed Long walks with his dog Jack. The biggest joy of his life
was spending time with his family.
Surviving are a son William, Jr of Scranton; a daughter Julie Schweinsburg
and her husband Timothy and their three children Nicholas, Sarah, and
Joseph of South Canaan; two brothers Lester Davis and his wife Jeanne
and Ronald Davis and his wife Maxine all of Lake Ariel; two sisters
Helen Weston and her husband Michael of Lake Ariel and Kristy Lockwood
and her husband Dan of South Canaan; 11 nieces and nephews; several
great nieces and nephews.

early Saturday morning in the VNA Hospice at the Moses Taylor Hospital
after an illness. Her loving husband of 64 years is James Coccodrilli,
Sr.
Born in Lake Ariel, daughter
of the late Howard and Susan Enslin Shaffer she was a graduate of the
Lake Consolidated School and was a member of St. Thomas More Church.
She had been employed by Caesar’s Cove Haven Resort for 30 years
retiring as Executive Chef/Director of Foods for Caesar’s Resorts
in the Pocono’s. Her work ethic, dedication, and talent earned
her the Martha Jeanette Coccodrilli Achievement Award. The award was
created in her name, awarded to her and has been awarded to an outstanding
employee at one of the five Caesar Resorts in the Pocono’s for
24 years.
Martha had one great love and
that was her family. The greatest gift Martha gave her family was her
love and the legacy of love for family.

his wife Geri Coccodrilli of Michigan, Rich Coccodrilli and his wife
Johanna of Dunmore, Robert and his wife Linda Coccodrilli of Sterling

in St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home. Her husband was the late Clarence
J. Ridgeway who died in 1993. The couple was married June 18, 1936.
Born in Hollisterville, son of the late Charles and Frances Chedster
Fueglein. She was a member of the Hollisterville United Methodist Church
and loved to play the piano and sing in the choir. She was a member
of the Rebekkah Lodge Order of the Eastern Star since 1955.
She was a loving and caring grandma who enjoyed baking, sewing, and
spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and loved
spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are granddaughters, Michelle Noble, Lake Ariel, and Stacey
Koch, Hamlin; Sisters Margaret Brooks, Conklin, NY and Millicent Weed,
Moscow; Great grandchildren, Shawna, Mark, Ian, Brandie, Alyssa, Nicholas,

Born in Ledgedale, son of the late Stanley and Rose Wielojosz Pruss,
Sr. he was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated High School. He was
a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale and it’s Holy
Name Society. Prior to retirement he had been self employed as a dairy
farmer. He also served many years as a Salem Township Supervisor. He
was also a member of the Ledgedale Fire Company and was a forty year
4-H Leader.
Surviving are a son Edward D. Pruss of Ledgedale; daughters Margaret
Miller and her husband John of Mt. Wolf, Pa., Christina Salak and her
husband Donald of Waymart, and Mary V. Pruss of Scranton; a sister
Pauline Soska of Florida; grandchildren David Miller, SFC Robert, Ellen,
and Bernadine Salak; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by brothers Stanley, Anthony, and Paul Pruss; a
sister Anna Perkosky Astringer.
Anyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30am in St.
Mary’s Church, Ledgedale.

Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Arthur D. Botjer, Sterling Township, died Saturday night at home.
His widow is the former Bernice Klepadlo.
Born in Greentown, son of the late Henry and Isabelle Reichel Botjer.
He was a graduate of the Greene Dreher High School. Prior to retirement
he had been employed as a carpenter. He was a United Sates Army veteran
serving in World War II.
Surviving are sons David of Maplewood and Arthur of Lake Ariel; grandchildren
Michael, Kevin, and Megan; great granddaughter Trinity; several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services and interment will be at a time to be announced
in Fairview Memorial Park.

Phyllis
I. Lown, a resident of Cortez, died Wednesday at home after an illness.
Her husband is Loren "Skip" Lown.
Born in Damascus, daughter of Margaret Daniels Shaffer of Lake Ariel
and the late Lester Walker. She was a graduate of the Jefferson Township
High School and was a member of the Cortez United Methodist Church.
Prior to retirement she had been employed Gertrude Hawk Chocolates
and several clothing manufacturing company's throughout the area.
She was gifted with many talents and wasn't afraid to share these
gifts with others. Whether it be her abilities with baking, gardening
(she had a phenomenal green thumb) or sewing and crocheting her caring
nature would always show through. Her nurturing also benefitted her
mother, children, grandchildren, or anyone looking for a sweet treat,
smile, shelter or words of encouragement. She was also very involved
with family Geneology.
Surviving are sons Loren and his wife Mary Lynne of Cortez, Ron and
his wife Mary Ann of Shavertown, and Roger and his wife Lauren of Philadelphia;
sisters Shirley Tuttle of Waymart, Evelyn Higginbothim of Sun City,
Az, Mary Ellen Britton of Hazelton, Suzanne Ciscoe of Madison Twp,
Sonya Osborne of Annapolis, Md, and Betty Rosengrant of Lake Ariel;
brothers Herbert of Millerton, Lester of Montecano, WA, Ted of Lake
Ariel, Bill of Northampton, and Friend of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren
Megan Arvonio, Jillian, Jessica, and Kelly Lown; several nieces and
nephews.
Preceded in death by a brother Johnny and a sister Patricia Mcumber.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10am in the James Wilson
Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev.
Ron Onder.

Sophie Grella, a resident of the Ellen Memorial Nursing Home, Honesdale,
formerly of the Hideout, died late Monday night. She was the widow
of Thomas A. Grella.
Born in Brooklyn, daughter of the late John and Frances Harasumchuk
Kret and was a graduate of the Girls High School in Brooklyn. She attended
St. Thomas More Church. Prior to retirement she had been employed as
an Engineering Assistant for AT&T.
Surviving are a son Thomas and his wife Carmen; a daughter Janet
Verni and her husband Vito all of Lake Ariel; five grandchildren; seven
great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by a twin sister Jennie; brothers Jack and John.
Anyone attending the Mass is asked to go directly to the church on
Thursday.

Charles H. Peet, Bidwell Hill, died Thursday morning at home after
an illness. His widow is the former Evelyn Conklin. The couple celebrated
their 70th wedding anniversary in September.
Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late Edward and Mary "Mame" Bidwell
Peet he was a member of the Wimmers Bible Fellowship Church. Prior
to retirement he had been employed by Bailey’s Manufacturing
in Honesdale for 32 years.
Surviving are sons Noel Peet of Hop Bottom and Rev. Gerald Peet of
Trout Run; a daughter Ann Price of Lake Ariel; seven grandchildren;
fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a daughter Glenda Henwood; a granddaughter Sonya
Joy Henwood.
Services will be held Saturday at 2pm in the Wimmers Bible Fellowship
Church, 200 Wimmers Rd. Mt. Cobb officiated by Charles’ son Rev.
Gerald Peet, his grandson Rev. Daniel Henwood, and pastor Wayne Jackson
of the Wimmers Bible Fellowship Church.

Born in Kenosha, WI., son of Patricia E. Crum Thomas, Sterling and

the NIEU in Scranton. He attended the Hollisterville United Methodist
Church.
Surviving are a brother and Allen R. Thomas, Sr. of Michigan; sisters
Leigh A. Merring of Lake Ariel and Laurie A. Scutt of Arkansas; step
brothers Richard F. Thomas, Jr. of Sterling, Donald Thomas of Pittston,;
several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a brother Scott.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3pm in the Hollisterville
United Methodist Church with Rev. Pat Lee officiating.

S. Koerner, Mt. Cobb, died Sunday in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Moses
Taylor Hospital after an illness. His wife of 51 years is the former
Anna Case.
Born in Scranton son of the late Alfred S. and Edna Kubler Koerner
he was a member of the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church, Hamlin.
Prior to retirement he had been employed by the Scranton Tobacco Company
in the Receiving Department. He was a United States Army Veteran.
Surviving are sons Keith of Hamlin and Alan of Mt. Cobb; a daughter
Robin Marhevka of Mt. Cobb; sisters Alberta Evans of Olyphant and Madeline
Peteritis of Nicholson; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by a daughter Linda Koerner Gordon; a grandson Craig
Marhevka.
The funeral will be Monday at 11am in the Hamlin Assembly of God Church
Route 191 Hamlin.

John J. Timlin, The Hideout, Lake Ariel, died Monday morning in the
VNA Hospice Unit at the Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness. His
wife is the former Mary Ann Reilly. The couple celebrated 59 years
of marriage in June 2005.
Born June 15, 1924 in the Bronx, NY son of the late Patrick and Delia
Mellet Timlin. Prior to retirement he was served as a Sergeant in the
New York City Police Department. He also served in the United States
Army during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.
Surviving are four daughters Patricia Van Roten of Stamford, Ct.,
Julie and her husband Ray Soffientini of Franklin Square, NY, Mary
and her husband Fred Federico of Lake Ariel, Jean and her husband Wes
Schelling of Franklin Square, NY; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren;
a nephew; two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his brother William "Bill"
Timlin.
The funeral will be Friday at 9am in the James Wilson Funeral Home
Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with Mass to be celebrated at 9:30am
in St. Thomas More Church.
Interment, St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Westchester, NY.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
